Otitis media, aka ear infections, are one of the most common ailments among babies and young children. Around 35% of all pediatric visits have to do with this painful and uncomfortable illness, which could be accompanied by fever lead result to other infections (e.g. colds, cough, and sore throat). Chronic ear infections will require treatments year after year and may endanger a child’s hearing capabilities.
Ear infections that are bacterial in nature are treated with antibiotics, but some research shows that these drugs won’t be more effective than the child’s immunity. When otitis media is caused by viruses, on the other hand, no medication can get rid of the infection.
